The Big Bang Theory and how it has changed over the 4 series( yes I am talking about the TV show)

Even though I live in Britain I don't find any of the British sitcoms appealing to well as mostly they are  aimed at the working class which needs basic drama and horrendous jokes to be entertained, apparently. So when I watch any TV show it mostly originates from across the pond. I find the American show sometimes more professional than the likes of EastEnders or whatever backward little show the BBC has produced. This leads me to discuss my beloved show called The Big Bang Theory.

You see what most captured my interest in BBT is that it had a range of themes in the show and it wasn't all about sex and how to find the 'one'. At the beginning it had a big input of scientific merit in it which may be why it appealed to me. However it also had the 'dating' input which I also enjoyed because it was played simultaneously with the science and it just mixed and that made it so different and so better than other mainstream sitcoms. However in the last series the writers decided to include multiple serious emotional themes and yeah it was still funny but it was just different. And slowly it's losing its appeal for me and no great acting from Jim Parrsons is going to change it.

Do any of you know any other shows that have slowly changed and lost it's appeal to some of you?
Let me know.

  5. I thought I was the only one :O

In the very first episode I caught that. Penny walked into the room and asked about the whiteboard and Sheldon was like "yesss" as if he was trying to impress her. NOW everything he does with her is some sort of conflict in his mind. He doesn't understand sarcasm yet he uses it ALL the time in previous episodes. It's very inconsistent and he was the reason so many people watch the show. Now he's a robot and all these hipster kids love him. It took it away from me, and now I can't stand the show.

Also, where do they find the time to do all of the things they do? Notice the only scenes at their work are of them eating lunch now?

  6. It happened to me too, but I only really noticed it when I saw the first season again. So sad, just the same happened with "how i met"

  9. I totally agree with that! The character of Sheldon evolved perfectly until season 3 and now he's becoming a bit too robotic!

Though, we have to understand that the first 3 seasons of Big Bang Theory were amazing and hard to equal!

  10. I agree with you concerning BBT, and I think the show "Scrubs" evolved badly as well... It was really funny and original until the various new characters were introduced.. They just seem so forced and unnatural.

    Following now btw.

  13. @sobaa Yeah monty python is the best British comedy by far but to be honest anything with John Cleese is so awesome it's hard to describe.

  14. I like TBBT. It's definitely changed, I think in part due to the added focus on the female cast and the radical change in Amy.

As far as British TV goes, speaking as an American, The IT crowed is worth a few giggles and Peep Show (along with That Mitchell and Webb Look) is awesome.

  23. Lie to Me is one of those shows. Really liked the first 2 seasons and then the 3rd one fell flat for me.

  24. Totally agree with Sobaa . . . The Office (Priceless), League of Gentleman (Excellent), Fawlty Tower (Classic), but you really can't get better than Monty Python, those guys are in a league of their own :)

  25. Like a few here, I'm actually from California, and watch BBC programming all the time! However, I think that BBC America is a bit of a "best of" when it comes to British programming.

  26. The 3 first seasons of TBBT were the best. Then it changed a lot for me.

  27. Well, shows usually either get boring because they don't try something new or because they try something new which turns out not to be all that appealing. That's just the way it goes with things that are so often made to appeal a large audience.

  28. Well even though it has changed in the past years its still good to watch :)
